Chapter 15

Adam wasn't sure what had changed. One minute he'd been in Mary's house and the next he'd been compelled to return to her. He'd raced through the snowy forest with Jacob on his heels… all to be right here… in her warm arms.

Any question of her being his mate had evaporated.

Mine.

Some distant part of him knew he should stay away from her. If Tristan didn't think she was his destiny, he might move on silently. Or at least leave her alone. But the thought of not touching her was unbearable. Adam had to feel her. He needed to know she was his, because he was certainly hers.

Despite his urgency to lower himself onto her sweet body and join with her, as soon as she was in his embrace, his focus changed. His own wants were eclipsed by the overwhelming need to cherish her and give her pleasure. When his lips met hers, he moved slowly, tenderly.

The very idea of causing her pain or discomfort was an anathema.

He slipped his fingers into her hair and held her gently as his mouth teased soft moans from her. The heady aroma of her arousal infused the room. It teased him. He ached to sink into her wet heat, but he could wait. Before he found his own pleasure, he wanted her trembling from his kisses, panting from his touch and quivering in his arms with her release.

But they needed to talk first.

It was damned near impossible, but he forced himself to stop the kiss. When he drew away, she whimpered and grabbed his head to urge him back again. Her lips were already red and swollen. A visible manifestation of his claiming. Beautiful. He wanted so much more, but…He swallowed.

"I don't know what happened, but—"

"Can't we talk about this later?" Mary wiggled, arching against his body.

He groaned, relishing the way her beautiful breasts were pressed against him. She was very good at making her point, but there were things he had to tell her.

"Mary." Her name was only two syllables long, but his voice was gruff and deep with need, making it barely understandable. Speech was beyond him when she moved like that.

He stepped away from her. Just one step. She frowned, but let him retreat. He cleared his throat and tried to organize his thoughts, but… God, she was beautiful. Distractingly so. "I don't know how much you know about wolves…"

"Are you going to give me the birds and the bees talk? Because I already know. I'm in a coven with four women who are mated to wolves." Then she reached down and grabbed the hem of the T-shirt she was wearing. She pulled it off and threw it at him. He didn’t even try to catch it or duck. He was too mesmerized by her. It hit him in the face. It may have been his shirt originally, but it smelled of her. Soft. Delicate. Reminding him of the woods on a spring morning.

What had she said?

He shook his head and tried to focus.
